esCarpade 2025 - Day 4 - Lay Day in Broken Hill

Lay Day in Broken Hill... the day for teams to fix cars, wash clothes (and for some teams, spend time away from their co-drivers).

While waiting for their coolant reservoir to arrive, Damo and Hoges went for a wander around town for coffee and sightseeing...

Hoges with another statue!

Roy INWOOD - VC recipient.

Old wall...

Old building!

Royal Apartments...

Dedicated to Pro Hart.

Sir Henry Parkes allegedly laid this stone...

Bottom right corner of this building.

World War One memorial.

Court house.

Bluey looking forward to helping fix the car!

Yep, that's an engine!

Removing the old coolant reservoir.  This is the coolant level sensor.

Preparing the new reservoir...

Installed!

After filling it with coolant, it was noticed that the coolant was rapidly exiting through the sensor.

Damian removed the reservoir and noticed the seal had been pushed through a little when installing... Reg from OKA was wandering past at this point and stopped to lend a hand.

Back in, filled with coolant and not leaking!  Sadly, Damian took Bluey for a test drive, and the coolant sensor is still lighting up the warning light on the dash... even though there is plenty of coolant.  It would seem that this is a known issue with EL Falcons.  Reg says "it's full of coolant and not leaking... just ignore the light!"  Fair.

Next stop - wash Bluey!

Hosing out the transmission cooler and radiator (as much as possible).

Voila!  Is clean!

Ducked across to the Coles complex to do a bit of shopping.

Then test driving far enough to check the temperature gauge is working as expected... it is!  Ended up at the Lode Lookout, including some old mining machinery...

Old transport baskets that looked terrifying!

Mining carts that must have been hard work to move around...

They call this progress!

The Miner's Memorial.

That's a lot of flowers...

The view from the lookout...

Photo of Hoges taking a photo in front of the Miner's Memorial.

Memorial side view...

BOGGER!!  Almost Booger Mobile...

Looking the goods...

With Bluey working fine, it was parked back at the motel and the boys went to find lunch, also finding some interesting buildings along the way.

The boys weren't the only team fixing their car today... at least it was a relatively simple fix, notwithstanding the annoying dash light issue...
